McDry has spent many years studying ways to optimize the low-humidity storage cabinets used to manage humidity levels for IC packages on-site, researching and developing ultra-low-humidity storage cabinets and their management systems.
This led to the production of the world's first ultra-low-humidity 5% RH storage cabinet featuring a digital humidity meter capable of measuring humidity levels as low as 3% RH. This breakthrough product was released under the McDry brand in 1990.
Further progress in cabinet development resulted in the release of the ultra-low-humidity 3% RH DXU-type storage cabinet in 1994, and led ultimately to the release of the current HM, DXU and MC models featuring a humidity level of just 1% RH.
The majority of Japan’s main electronic products manufacturers have installed McDry cabinets in their domestic surface mounting plants and now use our storage cabinet system to store their IC packages.
In the US also, McDry ultra-low-humidity storage cabinets are recognized as an alternative to the existing N2 gas method, and under the new IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033C standard (US Joint Electron Device Engineering Council), a new lower humidity 5% RH management standard has been set in addition to the existing standard for 10% RH humidity control using storage cabinets.
The future trend is for greater miniaturization and higher functionality in IC packages, along with a shift towards the increased use of CSPs.
In terms of their construction, these CSPs will inevitably be IC packages that are sensitive to moisture, or MSDs (Moisture Sensitive Devices).
Accordingly, McDry will continue to work with its customers to develop products that are ideally suited to the management of such MSDs.
